QVC New Beauty Test Tube - Second Quarter - April, May, June

I've heard about the New Beauty Test Tube before, but had not really looked into it as I assumed it was an American-only sub. However, I was alerted by Amy at The Pretty Vain  that the QVC version actually ships to Canada. So you can imagine my excitement!

The shipping box
It arrived by Canada Post and only took a couple weeks after initially ordering. There are actually two versions of this test tube - the New Beauty version - and this only ships in the U.S. and the QVC New Beauty version that ships in the U.S. and to Canada. They each come with different products but the same New Beauty magazine. Each tube is just under $30 plus tax and shipping, and for Canada it comes out to just over $45 per tube. For QVC, you can also just choose to buy one shipment, or sign up for auto-delivery (the tube comes out four times per year). Based on the value, selection and quality of products in this tube, I'm seriously impressed.

Another look (out of the boxes)
This quarter's tube came with deluxe or full sized products - (from L to R) - StriVectin Intensive Concentrate for stretch marks and wrinkles (15 ml); Peter Thomas Roth Laser-Free Moisturizing Gel Cream (15 g); St. Tropez Gradual Tan (75 ml); philosophy Amazing Grace shampoo, bath and shower gel (60 ml); Tarte LipSurgence lip luster in fever (full size); Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash (60 ml); Wen Cleansing Conditioner in Tea Tree (6 oz); and at the top - Mally Evercolor Shadow Stick in Twilight (full size).

The tube also comes with the latest issue of New Beauty magazine and a pamphlet detailing all of the items...

Overall, I am really impressed by this tube. I love the size and variety of products; I had actually only heard of three of these products before and have never tried any of them, so that's fantastic as I love to try new things. I mentioned in my last post that I cancelled one of my beauty boxes and that was Glossybox, because this test tube is actually the same cost as Glossy (it's $45 every three months and Glossy is $15/month) so I didn't want to get both and I decided that I just like the variety of products better in this box. I also like that it comes every three months instead of monthly, as I have enough monthly boxes, and the New Beauty magazine is fabulous. It retails for $10 in stores (so that's a quarter of the box right there) and I find it definitely rivals Allure which is my other go-to beauty mag.

If you're considering another beauty sub or just want one, I'd say go for this Test Tube - you won't be disappointed!

Liebster Award

This post is definitely overdue...as I got a ton of beauty products, boxes, bags, etc. in the past few weeks, and am only now catching up on things! (This definitely means I have too many beauty boxes, and I did actually cancel one yesterday, but more on that in another post).

I was nominated by the lovely Chelsey at Industrial Dime Store Magic for the Liebster Award. This blog award is to recognize bloggers that you like that have less than 200 followers. I was so incredibly surprised and pleased to gain this recognition, as I mentioned on her post, that sometimes it feels like I'm blogging in a bubble, wondering if all this posting and writing is worth the effort at times. But thanks to this type of award, and of course, the daily comments (which are like gold to every blogger!), it makes it all worth it.

Now come the rules...when you receive the award, you must...

1. Thank the person who gave you the award, and link to their blog (thanks Chelsey!)
2. Copy and past the award to your blog (done and done!)
3. Present the Liebster Award to 5 other blogs you think deserve recognition.
4. Let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
5. Have faith that your nominees will continue to spread the love.

So without further ado, here are the nominations...

Jayne at Cosmetic Proof
Kathryn at Provincial Budget Beauty
Sarah at Mes Joies de Vivre
Brittany at Blonde Brittany
Christine at Gloss & Glitter

Go visit and follow these blogs (if you haven't already)!

May Glymm box...er, bag.

Time to unbox my May Glymm Box!

The shipping container
The shipping box is the same as last time, plain white with the Glymm website on the side.

Inside it looks a lot different than in previous months though...

The product card (where's the model?)

Inside card
No more box?

The bag

Well, it looks like the Glymm box is gone, but in it's place, a cute Glymm nylon bag. I love pink! This reminds me of the U.S. -based box My Glam, in which every month's samples are placed inside a reusable bag.

The goodies inside
Let's take a closer peek at the products...

CK Shock for him and for her
I received two 1.2 ml samples of CK shock - one for him and one for her. The full size for both is 50 ml and retails for $45. I already have samples of these, but I don't really mind getting more as I like wearing the women's version and my husband likes the men's. I do notice however, that the women's version fades much more quickly.

NuMe Hydro Punch Conditioner
I got a 20 ml sample of NuMe's HydroPunch Hydrating Conditioner. The full size is 250 ml and retails for $24.99. I'm happy to receive this sample as it indicates it's for dry or colour-treated hair, and I have dry ends that tend to split. It also contains Argan Oil, Bamboo and Sage extract. I like the packaging of this sample - it would be great to take for travelling or to the gym. So far, I have NuMe's feather extension and their mini flat iron, and I'm excited to try their hair care products as well.

Caudalie Gentle Buffing Cream and Vineexpert Anti-Aging Serum
I received a 15 ml sample of Caudalie's gentle buffing cream and a 7 ml sample of their anti-aging serum. The full size of the cream is 60 ml for $35 and the full size of the serum is 15 ml for $33.  I remember getting a Caudalie hand cream in a past Glymm box and really loved it, so I'm looking forward to trying out the buffing cream. I don't know if I will like it more than my Vasanti Enzymatic Rejuvenator but I'll give it a go. However, one of my friends wanted the serum so I gave that to her. There is also a card included in the Glymm bag offering a Caudalie lip balm for free with the purchase of any two Vinosource products.

Coola Cucumber face sunscreen
I got a 5 ml sample of Coola Cucumber mineral face sunscreen. The full-size is 50 ml and retails for $36 (that's an expensive sunblock!!!) Now that summer is almost upon us, I welcome any and all sunblock samples, as they will definitely be used. I don't know if I would buy the full-size though, because of the price.  But I do like how it can be used as a primer - double duty!

Mereadesso Lip Treats
I received a 1.2 g Mereadesso Lip Treats balm in sheer burgundy. The full size is a package of 2 for $28. This is actually a really nice moisturising lip product that gives a lovely flush to lips. I love the colour!

Swatch on my hand

Swatch on my lips
It's nice and soft, and you can layer to make the colour more intense.

So that's my May Glymm bag. Overall, although I'm sad to see the boxes go, I do like the change they've made with the cute bags. They say it was to cut down on packaging, and that's possible too, but I also think they were doing a rebranding and wanted a new look. I was really happy with the number and variety of products in this month's bag. Keep up the good work, Glymm!

What do you think of the products? What did you get in your Glymm bag this month?

If you'd like to join me on my beauty box journey, you can sign up for Glymm here (referral link) or here (non-referral link). Cost is $12/month.

Julep Maven - June box preview

Happy Victoria Day all! Over this long weekend, Julep posted their box preview for June. Check it out...

American Beauty
In June's American Beauty box, there is Courteney (key lime cream); Lily (fuchsia cream); and Julep's Daylight Defense (SPF 30 face sunblock).

Boho Glam
The Boho Glam box has Robin (blue cream); Daisy (lemon cream) and Julep's Daylight Defense.

Bombshell this month has Rose (watermelon cream); Morgan (shimmer grape) and Julep's Daylight Defense.

Classic with a Twist
Classic with a Twist includes Lauren (hot pink cream); Claire (sky blue cream) and Julep's Daylight Defense.

IT Girl
Lastly, IT Girl has Sasha (melon cream); Morgan (same as Bombshell box - shimmer grape) and Sandra (shimmery magenta).

Even though these are really fun colours, and I like not just my IT girl box but some of the others as well, I don't think I will get a Maven box this month as I have lots of polishes to go through (and sunscreen is not really a pull for me to get one of the other boxes). Also... I just happened to get some amazing colours up in cottage country over the weekend!

The find (L to R - Aruba Rhythm; Frenzy, Purple Passion; Let's Meet)
Check it out - I found these amazing colours for only $2.99 each! Score! Sinful Colors is apparently 3 free as well, so doubly good. I love the holographic colours of Aruba Rhythm and have been looking for a yellow like Let's Meet for a long time (darker, mustard-y yellow with a hint of shimmer). And I can picture Frenzy as an accent nail to go with Purple Passion. I'm so happy with this find :)

What do you think? Will you get a Maven box this month? Which colours do you like?

If you'd like to join me on my beauty box journey, you can sign up for Julep Maven here (referral link) or here (non-referral link). Intro box is only a penny - just type in code COLORS4ONE or SHAREONMAY in at checkout.

Loose Button Summer Trends 2012 event

On Wednesday, May 17, 2012, Loose Button held their Summer Trends 2012 event at Dermalogica on King Street West in downtown Toronto. This was a beauty, trends and lifestyle event that had beauty bloggers, PR, and fashionistas alike nibbling on appetizers, sipping vino and learning about the top ten summer beauty trends from Chantel Guertin, Editor-at-Large at TheKit.ca. Reps from Valentino, Benefit and Dermalogica were also on hand to showcase and discuss their products. This CityGirl scored an invite and had a fantastic time; below are some of the highlights from the evening.

Me and Kara
I attended the event with my good friend Kara - professional make up artist, visual designer and photographer extraordinaire! She did my make up for my wedding and did an amazing job. You can check out her creative genius here. :)

The wall of beauty!

Everyone sipping, noshing and chatting away
The gorgeous tower of cupcakes (with a button on top of each!)
A personalized Loose Button button :)
Valentina by Valentino perfume - smells very feminine and floral!
The Benefit booth
Benefit's They're Real! beyond mascara
Benefit's ultra plush gloss
Benefit's bronzing and highlighting face powders (matches the glosses!)
Benefit's The POREfessional primer
Trying out the POREfessional on my hand - it feels so nice! Amazing scent as well!
Chilling with the crew at Benefit! Thumbs up to POREfessional and all of Benefit's cosmetics!
Presentation time!
Me and Chantel Guertin
The top ten trends in beauty for summer 2012 was presented by Chantel Guertin from The Kit magazine. Ms. Guertin gave a really fun and engaging presentation (think big lashes, bronzer, winged eyeliner, caviar nails! and pink lips) and is such a sweet and gracious person to speak with.

Me and Daniel
I also got to say thanks for the fabulous event to one of the hosts of the evening and loose button staffers, Daniel. It was neat to talk to some of the staff behind the scenes at this company, considering I get their beauty boxes each month.

The loot
At the end of the evening, each guest was sent away with a lovely gift bag. I opened mine up when I got home and squealed! Inside was...

The Kit magazine

Inside view
An advanced copy of the Kit magazine...

Chantel's book

An autographed copy of one of Chantel's books (I received 'Stuck in Downward Dog' which I've actually read before and it is really good - chick lit at it's best. And it's set in Toronto! Now I have an autographed copy for my keeper shelf).

This looks familiar...
Oooh, a The Kit-Luxebox collaboration!
What's inside?

The goods
Full size Benefit Ultra Plush Gloss in Hoola; a rollerball sample of Valentina by Valentino; a sample of K-Pak Revitaluxe by Joico.

There's more?

Dermalogica gift sampler pack
The products
Inside this super cool, $68 value Dermalogica gift pack sampler (from L to R) is their Special Cleansing Gel; Daily Microfoliant (love this!); Skin Smoothing Cream (really love this!); and their multivitamin power firm.

What a neat goodie bag! Thank you so much Loose Button, Dermalogica, Chantel and The Kit magazine, Benefit, Valentino, Joico and Made with Love (for the amazing cupcakes!). I had a great time; can't wait to do it again.
